Where can I find a psychology article about the effects of unusual names in children?

Question by Little J: Where can I find a psychology article about the effects of unusual names in children?
I’ve been all over Google Scholar, and my university’s library archives. I cannot find one professional psychology article on the implications of uncommon names in children for my research paper. I specifically want to explore the relationship between uncommon names in boys and later psychological problems.

Any suggestions for where else I could look to find a good periodical on this? (Just in case it crosses your mind, I’m not looking for magazine or newspaper articles – I’m looking for scientific studies)

if those names can be compared to something like and object or a disease, then bullying can occur and can cause mental and personality problems and can make the kid feel depressed………also, it can happen if the name has a derogatory meaning……

    Oh wow, great question!

Have you tried the various databases like Ovid? I’m not a student any more so I can’t do a proper search for you unfortunately!

What I would suggest though is to start with developmental psych theories related to social inclusion because uncommon names I suspect would only be a catalyst for later psychologist problems when children are targeted/bullied.

I suspect that when you find the right theory, a search of the theory will be more likely to lead to results that are relevant.

It might be difficult to find the data though. The study of the relationship between names and psychological problems would have to be a longitudinal study over probably a good decade if you’re relating the information back to child development. Perhaps it hasn’t been closely examined yet?

This certainly is a niche topic, However I was able to find out a couple of articles on Child Name and its impacts on Child Psychology at http://ezinearticles.com/?Case-Study;-Personalities-and-Names,-Lance-Winslow&id=193795 by Lance Winslow. You can search for “Child Psychology and names” at ezinearticles.com
