what’s the difference between the correlation and experimental methods in psychology?
i’m taking beginning psychology this semester, and I seem to be having trouble answering this essay question. can anyone help me out??

Correlation is how much one variable is an effector on another variable. Take the correlation number’s absolute value, the closer it is to 1 the stronger the correlation (the more one variable is affecting another), the closer it is to 0 the weaker the correlation (0 means there is no correlation between the two variables). Positive correlation means a change in one variable has a similar affect on the other variable (an increase in calories causes an increase in weight gain). Negative correlation means a change in one variable has an opposing affect on the other variable (an increase in exercise causes a decrease in weight).
Experimental methods can be naturalistic or structured. They are as they sound- naturalistic methods are experiments done in the natural setting of the person, be it home, school, etc- structured are set up in order to create a certain situation and a certain outcome.
