Studying applied psychology you will be learning about how to apply the stuff you learn in the area you chose.

For example, if you do clinical psychology, you will probably get to intern at various mental health settings (hospitals, corrections facilities etc).

Industrial/Organisational you would probably go into businesses and learn how to apply the principles and theory in that sort of setting.

One is science, the other isn’t. (Perhaps that’s overly glib, or perhaps it isn’t. There seems to be a large and growing amount of controversy even within professional mental health circles about the validity as a true, medical science, of clinical psychology. You should be able to find a good deal of rather eye-opening information from a range of credible sources if you do a little digging.)
