What will be the state of Parapsychology in the future?

Question by Dr.Nice Guy: What will be the state of Parapsychology in the future?
In a year from now what will we learn? Will there be a breakthrough, if so when?
Psychic predictions are welcome.
T- Thank you for the benefit of the doubt.

Parapsychology will still be a pseudoscience that attracts people who are not very good at real science.

Well, for a while they thought there might be something to it, and a few real schools even offered degrees in it. But since it’s been 50 years and they never found anything, all those schools have dropped their programs, and it doesn’t look good for any of them offering it again.

There will be a break through at some point. I watch a lot about quantum physics and spiritual matters, paranormal stuff. Scientists are slowly getting there. I was in India a short while a go and they had the quantum physicists meeting up with he Buddhist Monks to try and tie the two up. Here watched this the other day,you may like it. You may not be in to the quantums at the start but if you carry on watching I think you’ll find this of interest!!

With any luck, rationality will prevail and people will abandon such silliness.

present is realistically probably the best near-term future parapsychology has; in this low-funded, career-depressing area, not much more.
Fortunately, the dogmatic skepticism re psi, which is of itself pseudo-scientific, and which ignores such minimal findings as the above present, is also becoming less credible in the general scientific community. Ironically, the materialistic pragmatic Communist scientists in PRC have done credible work (Paul Dong’s “China’s Super Psychics” giving examples).

I will treat this question as genuine and legitimate rather than an attempt to provide a forum for deniers and “thumbs down”.

Parapsychology, like any science, advances slowly. As such, there is unlikely to be a great deal of progress in only a year’s time. In order to answer this question, you need to understand the current state of the science.

Parapsychologists have presented significant evidence of phenomena that cannot be explained using the commonly excepted world view of physical reductionism. These phenomena include presentiment, remote viewing, concurrent variances in EEG readings in separated subjects, and the physical effects of human intention on plants. In addition, a substantial amount of information has been gathered related to the nature of human consciousness when it is apparently separated from the physcial body. The evidence is convincing to the majority of scientists who have reviewed the research or are familiar with the studies.

Currently, parapsychologists are researching the mechanisms behind these phenomena. What are the characteristics of those who achieve positive results in the research studies, including their psychological characteristics, lifestyles, beliefs, genetics, biology, and their life experences. In addition, there is research examining possible evolutionary tracks that may present a positive environment for the development of these abilities. There is an ongoing investigation into unintentional psi that often occurs without the knowledge or recognition of the participants. Finally, there are studies being done to determine whether experimental protocol can be used to provide stronger evidence for the experiences of those who have been declared clinically dead and yet have had experiences of perceptions beyond their physical perceptions. These are only a few examples of current studies, but they are substantial avenues of research within the field.

Within a year, I expect that some of these avenues of research will have proven fruitless and they will be dismissed. Others will show small results that appear to be significant. Still others will provide new knowledge, likely very small advances on the current state of the science, that will be building blocks for future research.

Within 20 years, I expect that the science in some areas will have progressed to the point of being adopted by the traditional sciences. This has happenned in the past with scientific ideas as diverse as germ theory, evolution, relativity, and within the field of parapsychology, hypnosis. There are already advances being made in physic regarding entangled particles and the observer effect which are demonstrating quantum phenomena that could be shown to have a relationship to some of the effects observed in parapsychology.

Science has been said to advance by funerals, and it will likely be the case with parapsychology. Because of the ongoing science fiction and dramatic media presentations of psi, many people mistake this fiction as the events being studied in parapsychology. This is far from the truth. Real science is being done in this field by established researchers. The funding is still minor compared to many sciences, and so the progress is slow. As more funding become available and more time is available for research, more discoveries will be made both supporting and disproving current theories. As a scientist, I believe that all evidence should be recognized and reviewed even if it does not agree with the prevailing beliefs or the predominant world view. As such, it is essential that fields such as parapscyhology continue to forge ahead with research despite the loud voices of the deniers.
