what should I give up for this assignment?
For my Psychopharmacology class my professor has assigned us to give up something for the semester and keep a journal regarding our experience. It is supposed to be something that we like (can be a food, an activity, whatever) and is meant to give us a glimpse of what people struggling with addictions go through. I am having a hard time deciding what to give up…what would you choose?

Maybe if you drink alot of caffeine? That would be a really good thing to give up.

Give up spelling for a week. Anyone who can spell psychopharmacology, a 18 letter word, needs a break.

give up your negative emotions. I’m not saying be falsely positive, upbeat and chirpy. Just BEAR DOWN and do NOT give in to irritation, annoyance, anger as a way of expressing yourself.
This includes expressing yourself through your body language.
This will require that you WATCH YOURSELF, in the literal sense, for the next month. Find out some way to remind yourself that you are intentionally maintaining a state of self-awareness. Because you will forget. Something always distracts us from remembering ourselves.

You could try giving up caffeine for your assignment, since it has a major impact on body biochemistry and would fit right in to your class topic. Dropping coffee, tea, and caffeinated soda from your diet should gave an effect on your metabolism and blood pressure, and may cause withdrawal symptoms if you chug diet pop like I do. If you are a caffeine freak, you will definitely see effects on your body & psyche; I’ve gone cold turkey several times and know this from experience.

Give up caffeine
Give up using a cell phone
Give up texting
Give up[ using all slang–spoken and written
Give up foods with sugar
Give up foods with artificial sweeteners
Give up listening to the radio–even when you are in a car
Give up watching TV
Give up using the internet for anything except homework
I agree with others that giving up caffeine is the best (if you currently use caffeine) because to compare understand a physical addiction, you really need to experience withdrawl from a physical addiction—not just something psychologically addictive.
