This is a microscopic description of cells having a “picket-fence” appearance, surrounding adjacent tissue structures (blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, glands, etc) or areas of dead and dying tissue (necrosis). Lymphocytic infiltration of the dermis describes the increased presence of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, in the underlying supportive tissue beneath the epidermis, most likely in response to invasion by malignant cells.
