What does it take to be admitted into a good PhD program in Social Psychology?
How does one start from an RN degree (ASN and BSN) and then BA in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology… thanks.

I think your first priority should be to get research experience in psychology. Since you have finished school, perhaps you could get a job as a research assistant? An alternative to that would be volunteering in a social psych lab that was doing research that was interesting to you. Research is one thing that every school is looking for and won’t do without.
It helps that you have an RN degree! I have been told that many non-psych majors are actually more desirable as Ph.D students, because they have a greater breadth of knowledge and experience. I’m sure that your degree would especially give you an edge if you were interested in neuroscience or physiological psychology.
Other things you will need (these are no brainers, for the most part):
-good recommendations
-good GRE scores
-a statement of purpose that is specific about what you would like to research, who you are interested in working with while at that school, and your goals after getting the degree (i.e. academia?)
-GPA doesn’t make that much of a difference
Remember, if you don’t get into a Ph.D program, it is always possible to get your MS first, then get into a Ph.D program.
