What do you do at your first session of psychotherapy for anxiety?
I’m 14 years old. I can barely function at school and it gets so bad that I’ll break out in hives and vomit.
I have an appointment with a psychotherapist coming up.
What are they going to do?
I’m really worried about it.

i know that you may have a hard time understanding this question but: WHERE ARE YOUR HANDS? concentrate on where your hands are. concentrate on the BREATH you are taking this VERY moment. this is what is causing your intense anxiety. (sure, of course there are underlying causes and conditions).
i am a psychotherapist. i use hypnosis and self hypnosis in my protocols to help people just like you to deal with anxiety. then YOU run the show. and YOU take away your stress/anxiety/depression.
your question is valid, however and needs to be posed to the practitioner, not us. you are not coming to see us. right? if you were coming to see me, you would already have known what would happen in your first session.
so BREATHE and pay attention to where you are in the moment. not tomorrow, not next week, not last week. NOW. if you learn this at 14 you may just have a chance to become well adjusted and have a chance at a really great life.
you can contact me for further help.

The first appointment is usually a psychological assessment.
They’ll ask you about your childhood, family history and things like that.
They’ll also ask about your mental health, things like ‘have you had any hallucinations or thoughts of self-harm/ suicide?’
They basically just try to get a picture about how bad your anxiety is and what things may contribute to it.

You must relax yourself before the therapy starts because you may tend to loss the benefit of psychotherapy to you.

First of all, I wouldn’t be scared going to the therapist for your anxiety (the therapist is being paid to help you, after all, and their job is to help people work through their problems). The first session will also be the time when the therapist takes the time to get to know you.
