I’d go to the zoo’s snake exhibit , and listen to parents describing their own emotional reactions and what they expect their children to experience. I’d preclassify the responses as Positive (isn’t it beautiful?), Neutral( I’ve never seen anything like this before, have you?) , and Negative (Ooh!…. Click Here to Read More

Question by Wolfgirl: Would a psychology research study be experimental or descriptive? I have to make a mock research study, and I wanted to do one on the effect horse back riding has on depression (i.e. Does riding/working with horses decrease depression levels?). However, I am having a bit of a brain lapse and can’t decide if this would be better done as a experimental (using the scientific method of describe, explain, predict, influence) or descriptive (observational) research study. Best answer: Answer by Alyson KWell, because your independent variable (Horseback riding) cannot be manipulated by you in the experiment, your research will have to be correlational, not…. Experimental Pragmatics (Palgrave Studies in Pragmatics, Language, and Cognition) How does our knowledge of the language on the one hand, and of the context on the other, permit us to understand what we are told, to resolve ambiguities, to grasp both explicit and implicit content, to appreciate metaphor and irony? These issues have been studied in two disciplines: linguistic pragmatics and psycholinguistics, with only limited interactions between the two. This volume lays down the basis for a new field: Experimental Pragmatics. Contributions review pioneering work and present novel ways of articulating theories and experimental methods in the area. Utility of Gains and Losses: Measurement-Theoretical and Experimental Approaches (Scientific Psychology Series) This new monograph presents Dr. Luce’s current understanding of the behavioral properties people exhibit (or should exhibit) when they make selections among alternatives and how these properties lead to numerical representations of those preferences. It summarizes, and places in historical perspective, the research Dr. Luce has done on utility theory for over 10 years. Included are axiomatic theoretical formulations, experiments designed to test individual assumptions, and analyses of the fit to bodies of data of numerical representations derived from the….
