Study Guide and Computer Workbook for Statistics for Psychology

Product Description
A book that focuses on the logic behind the concepts of statistics for psychology, using definitional formulas rather than emphasizing rote memorization. Clearly written, each procedure is conveyed both numerically and verbally, with many visual examples to illustrate the text. It takes the reader from basic procedures through analysis of variance (ANOVA), and not only teaches statistics, but also prepares the user to read and understand research articles as well. This book is an introduction to statistics for psychology, covering such topics as order in a group of numbers; mean, variance, standard deviation, and Z scores; correlation; prediction; the normal curve, probability, and population versus sample; hypothesis testing; the t test; analysis of variance; chi-square tests; the general linear model; and making sense of advanced statistical procedures in research articles. For statisticians, psychologists and those involved in psychological research in the behavioral and social sciences.

I found this book greatly supportive to a non-statistically minded person such as myself. The authors realise that not everyone feels comfortable with doing statistics and, indeed, actually dread it. Since I need to do a Statistics for Psychology course to continue in Psychology it has been a relief that the main text used has been written to aid the statistically impaired. It is fulled with many mind-easing comments etc. and, with the combination of this book and my lecturer at the University of Canterbury, I am actually learning to enjoy something I never thought I would enjoy. A big thank you to Arthur and Elaine Aron. You have helped me continue my studies in the field I wish to remain in – Psychology.

I’ve never come across a textbook with so many mathematical and typographical errors! It was absolutely infuriating! We could never trust what the book gave as a solution to an exercise.

If the authors would fix these errors it would be a decent text.

I was amazed w/how clearly this book explained concepts (as compared with other books/professors). The book also explains the concepts in different ways/perspectives, so that if you don’t understand one explanation you’re likely to understand the others. The book also has a perfect range of material–complete coverage of Z-scores, t-tests, regression, and ANOVAs; all the way thru concepts like MANOVA/MANCOVA, and multiple regression. Also at the end includes a couple great chapters which give very simple explanations of more complex procedures such as structural equation modeling, causal modeling, factor analysis, etc. By far the best stats book I’ve read.

This book is “junk!” It explains statistics in such a way that it will get you more confused, if you are not already. I suggest you get this book, only, if you have a strong understanding of it. But if you don’t understand statistic than I suggest you get something else to complement its complexity.

When I learned that Amazon.com had everything I needed I started using it. Especially when going to school and the books are so expective I started ordering my books through Amazon.com and it’s been great. For Example, Statistics for Psychology was a huge help for me in class. I paid a great price for it when book stores was asking for $150, with Amazon.com I saved so much money, and the book came on time and it was a great help to have in-front of me when doing my work. This book was very informative and explained everything step by step, I believe if it was not for this book I would have failed my class.
