Q&A: What were attitudes to mental illness like in the 1940s?

Question by ChristieSalad.: What were attitudes to mental illness like in the 1940s?
I have work to do for tomorrow afternoon regarding mental illness in the 1940s. I spent an hour and half researching it this morning only to find less than half a page of information, so any more links, knowledge, articles, anything at all on the subject would be greatly appreciated as I have to do a presentation in the afternoon.
Thanks!

Frontal lobotomies were still being done. This would indicate that care for the mentally ill was still rather primitive at that time.
