Psychology: Core Concepts (hardcover) (5th Edition)

The accomplished author team of Phillip Zimbardo (APA president 2001-2002), Bob Johnson and Ann Weber once again present psychology to both teachers and students in a meaningful, manageable format. Each chapter of this brief, less expensive textbook focuses on the key questions and core concepts of psychology, supported by an extensive pedagogical structure designed to aid students. A wealth of instructive features, such as “Psychology in Your Life,” “Using Psychology to Learn Psychology,” and “Do it Yourself!” enhance student learning and retention of key psychological concepts. Psychology, Fifth edition integrates a cross-cultural and multicultural perspective to make psychology meaningful for all readers. This is all accomplished in a 14-chapter format, which is easier to integrate into a semester or quarter course.

I was assigned this text for a college General Psychology course, and upon reading it cover to cover, I found that it was quiet interesting! The book uses simple terms so it is easy to understand what really matters, rather than trying to memorize countless definitions, and it has a story at the beginning of each chapter to help put each concept in perspective. In comparison to other dry, and complicated psychology books which I have had in the past, I highly suggest this book to anyone wishing, or forced to, study psychology.

We have never received a book that was not bound. It seems like an unusual way to have a book and I doubt I would have purchased knowing this. It was not listed as such on line.

This review is from: Psychology: Core Concepts (hardcover) (5th Edition) (Hardcover)

I used this book for a introductory course in college, and this book was used often.

    – I like how brief and concise it was. I wasn’t bogged down or overwhelmed much.

    – Some chapters are actually interesting to read. I sometimes jumped ahead to see what interesting topics lay ahead. Needless to say, I found myself reading about fascinating new technologies and findings.

    – Great experience overall. There’s a lot of fun parts that makes me feel like a kid again, even though the textbook was used in college.

Highly recommended for intro psychology for middle, high school, and college.
