Personality Plus at Work was exactly what I was looking for when I was researching personality styles at work. Florence Littauer is my go-to gal for personalities and building interpersonal relationships.

This book got passed around the office. Just opening left me feeling odd. There are vast amounts of scientific studies done in this field by both universities and business over many decades. As such scientific terms and data are used to expertly express and substantiate the facts, opnions and ideas of a book. This book does not use the expected terms nor does it site any reseach to concur with the authors statements (ie foot notes). There isn’t even a bibliography in the book. One does not take medical advice from a lay person. As I remember the field of interpersonal relationships is under the medical umbrella of psychiatry. Googling both authors names reveals that they do not have a degree in psychology, psychiatry or sociology. Florence has a degree in English. Given the lack of cross referencing, lack of appropriate terminology, and lack of authors professional training read it but do not use it exclusively as it seems to be the well intended work of a lay person.

If you have ever wondered why there are some people at work that just rub you wrong, maybe it is because you don’t understand their base personalities and trates. This is a great book to not only learn about yourself, spouse, kids, but those people you spend 8 hours a day with at work.
