New Version of Evidence-Based Program for Improving Students’ Attention, Behavior and Capacity for Learning Unveiled at FETC 2013

Large numbers of students around the country struggle with attention problems and behavior that impede learning and social development. To help overcome these issues and ensure that all students stay on track for success in school, college and career, Pearson today unveiled Cogmed 3.0, a new version of the breakthrough intervention for improving attention, behavior and capacity for learning, customized specifically for use in schools.
Built on an extensive foundation of research, Cogmed targets working memory capacity to fundamentally improve cognitive functions that contribute to learning and attention problems. For nearly a decade, the program has been used successfully by psychologists and mental health professionals worldwide and is currently used by more than 15 percent of schools in Sweden, where Cogmed was originally developed by researchers from Karolinska Institute, one of Europes largest and most prestigious research universities.

Fully enhanced for use on Apples iPad and Android tablets, the new Cogmed 3.0 allows teachers to configure the training time to fit student schedules. Home as well as classroom or computer lab use is possible and easy to manage. Cogmed 3.0 also offers educators self-directed, online training that teaches them how to implement the program and how to coach students through it.
Other new features make program administration easier for teachers. Cogmed 3.0 provides educators with automatic notification of key training events and the ability to monitor improvement in students’ working memory capacity throughout training.
More than 25 peer-reviewed research studies demonstrating Cogmed’s efficacy have been published in well-respected, juried publications, such as the “Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry” and the “Journal of Pediatrics.” A 2011 study, published in “Science” magazine, concludes that Cogmed is the most researched executive function training program available today.
