Need help starting Prozac?

Ok…I had a bad experience with minocycline last summer. I had switched 3 diff antidepressants in a 2 week time span. I was basically over-medicated and Dr said I had an allergy to the minocycline. I felt out of my body (derealization) It was the scariest feeling ever. Well Ive been off meds for 6 months now and Im worse then ever. Im depressed and anxious and basically feeling like crap. The Dr. Prescribed Prozac again (since it had worked for 6 years before I started switching medicines) But Im afraid I am going to THINK myself into that derealization feeling again. Like a psychosomatic thing. How do I remain calm and convince myself to start the medicine? Please help and please dont tell me anything bad about taking antidepressants

You state that you are already depressed and anxious and ‘feel like crap’. It’s not unusual to develop a tolerance to various antidepressant medications after being on them for a prolonged period of time. (You’re like a diabetic, you’ll need medication to control the depression for the rest of your life). However, you’ve been off all meds for 6 months, and you’ve not taken Prozac for 6 years. You’re basically going to behave like someone who has never taken the medication before at this point. Prozac has a very different profile than other medications, and it is not associated with that disassociative feeling you experienced while taking minocycline, which is an antibiotic. Also, the fact that you were one so many meds in such a short time would have increased your risk for a drug-drug interaction, which is what you had.
You are letting your anxiety get the better of you. Take the Prozac. Do not add any other new medications to your regimen for at least three weeks, this will avoid possible interactions, and allow you to develop a consistent blood level of the active ingredient. It will also allow you to judge whether the medication is having a positive effect on you.
You’re already feeling miserable now, why continue to do so on the remote risk of a rare reaction?
