Excellent therapist’s manual for working with anxious children, July 2, 2011

This is an engaging and well-written book. It lays out a detailed 12-session protocol for a clinician to use in group or individual therapy with anxious children. The activities are structured appropriately for children, take into account children’s limited attention span and other developmental differences from adults, and are actually fun and interesting. There is lots of coaching and suggestions for the therapist, and well developed supporting materials. It was a pleasure to read, full of useful and insightful information, and I recommend it highly.

Drs. Semple and Lee have written an excellent guide and manual for teaching mindfulness skills to anxious children. Their adaptation of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for use with kids is both technically compelling and wise. Along with Susan Kaiser Greenland, Semple and Lee are pioneers in this area, and this book shows it.
