As a fellow hypnotherapist, I became aware of fine reputation of Roy Hunter nearly a decade ago. Consequently, I attended several of his hypnosis-related seminars over the years and found them to be practical and enlightening. I think Roy Hunter is a generous teacher and author. As a budding hypnotherapist, I have read other of his books and they were helpful to me. From time to time… I still continue to refer to his books. Recently, I read “Master the Power of Self Hypnosis” with the notion of perhaps expanding the content of.. or broadening the scope of, the self-hypnosis classes that I teach. “Master the Power of Self Hypnosis” is far more than a collection of inductions and scripts. It is not merely a “how to” book. But if you want to learn how to produce deep relaxtion and how to formulate achievable goals, as well as how negative programming occurs, and how to reprogram positive self-beliefs through self-hypnosis, this book shows you how. If you see the value in understanding how and why self-hypnosis works and what to avoid in the process…read this book. More importantly, If you are truly willing to work attaining your ideal self empowerment… then, this book is for you!

This book has shown the importance of the programs your mind run. It also shows the benefits to gaining control of your subconscious, which drives everything you do. Finally, it shows just how to go about that task using hypnosis. The book is very readable, and it is apparent the author is well experienced at what he professes. I am using this as a practical guide to influence the way I approach every apsect of my life from being a parent to handling the every day stresses in the business world. I don’t think I have begun to imagine the possibilities. Get this book and allow the rational conscious mind to drive the operation of the subconscious.

This book is poor quality and fundamentally misleading in places. There is nothing of value here which you can’t get on the net for free. Just do a search for “Self-Hypnosis Scripts” If I taught my clients how to do self-hypnosis in this way I doubt if they would have much success. All the stuff about Alpha and Beta brainwaves is just an intellectual red-herring and tells you nothing practical about the attitudes of mind which facilitate trance induction. Hunter’s style and his techniques are straight out of last century. If you read some of the old books you’ll be surprised how little he has added. He provides very basic information and scripts for eye-fixation and progressive relaxation inductions but no real guidelines on how to make them more effective. He does not address the typical obstacles which, e.g., self-hypnosis groups tend to encounter and overcome. He doesn’t provide adequate advice for clients who report that they have difficulty physically relaxing, or who feel excessively aware and analytic of the experience. This book provides about half the story of self-hypnosis and its the half which most people know already, or which they could find on the net or in any number of other books on the pop-psychology bookshelf.
