Is there a career one can pursue that deals with parapsychology?

Question by Christopher: Is there a career one can pursue that deals with parapsychology?
I’m thinking of studying psychology, quantum mechanics, and theology in college. But what I would really like to study is parapsychology. Is there a career I can go into that would accept one with a parapsychology degree?

stick with quantum mechanics if you can grasp that, then I wouldn’t waste my time with parapsychology

Yes. You set up a website and organisation professing to be able to do all sorts of wonderful things like talk to the dead and see into the future.
You then set out a list of your “charges” and sit back and wait for all the gullible fools to send you buckets of money in the vain hopes that you will be able to help them when in fact all you’ll be doing is making it up as you go – and making buckets of money in the process.
On the open market it’s called a SCAM.

Despite replies from the Scoffers, there are a number of organizations which study the esoteric and paranormal and employ people with degrees in parapsychology. The Edgar Cayce Institute in Virginia Beach, VA comes to mind. Unfortunately, most of these places are in Europe. BTW, there are universities which actually do grant a parapsychology degree. I would get a conventional degree first, then do parapsychology as a second degree or a Master’s.

    Good luck,

I do not think you should follow that career, most mainstream scientists highly discredit it as a profession.

There are many scientific careers that deal with parapsychology such as physics, engineering, medicine, psychology, anthropology, etc. It greatly depends on what aspect of parapsychology you wish to study and how you wish to study it.

Most people working in the field of parapsychology (part time or full time) have conventional science degrees while a few have conventional science degrees plus training (usually at the doctorate level) in parapsychology.

I have provided a link to the members page of the Parapsychological Association so you can see the educational background of some of it’s members.

Job openings in parapsychology are few so most people practice in the career of their conventional education/
