Excellent textbook for upper level or entry graduate course, December 28, 2010

After examining several good textbooks covering this topic, I chose this text to teach an upper level psychology class in research and design. I would describe the book as excellent. It will take the young experimenter (detective) from reviewing the mean to computing an analysis of variance. Mixed in are chapters related to ethics in research, research design, understanding variables and experimental design

There are a number of studies conducted by students used to illustrate various concepts. These studies also assisted the instructor in encouraging these young minds to pursuing worth-while studies.

Each chapter has a list of key terms, self-testing questions and a review summary. There are problems to solve in the back of chapters related to statistical analysis as well as answers in the back of the book. The diligent students found these exercises very useful.

There is an excellent chapter on the APA format. Besides the various ideas to remember are, once again, excellent examples for the student to review and use for models.

This book was written well for people who don’t have a background in statistics. I wish the book were a little more challenging.

Good condition. A little damage to the top that was not listed but I think that was from shipping.
