If I want to go to grad school to be a child psychologist should I go into clinical psychology or child psych?
My ideal profession would be to have my own practice for children…as in clinical work. But I dont know if i should apply for the Clinical Psychology doctorate level or the Child Psychology doctorate level??

If I had children I would feel better with a doctor with a doctorate in child psychology.

It depends… if you know for sure for sure that you want to work with children, then I suggest that you do Child Psych cause that would look much better when you apply for a job. However, if you are open to working with older patients, I would suggest Clinical Psych so that you may go either way in your job (work with children or adults). Child Psych will be a very specialized. Just make sure this is what you want to do before you apply. You don’t want to regret it later on.

I am working on my BA is psychology now, we had to take a quick 1 credit hour course on careers in psychology….not sure if your school offers this, but……to answer your question, I would go with clinical, that opens the door a little wider and gives you more options in your pratice. Even though you want to specialize in children, clinical psychology gives you a broader range if you want it.
Hope this helps
