Question by Steph: How much work for a double major in English and Social Studies Education?
How much work would it take to become qualified to teach HS English and/or HS Social Studies (History, Sociology, Psychology, Religion) ?

Check with your state’s dept of education to determine the requirements for a Social Studies composite certificate and an English certificate. I personally hold a SS composite certificate and have over 112 hours in the social sciences. Their are other certificates that may serve you better so check out the individual state requirements.
Basically you will need 12 hours or more of history, 9 hours government, 12 hours psychology, 9 hours sociology, 9 hours religious studies, 3 – 6 hours of your state’s history, 3 hours of your state’s government classes, etc. The English course pretty much speak from themselves.
Hope this helps …
