Tell someone NOT do something and see them do just that, it is commonly called reverse psychology.

Most likely though Psychoeducation? It gives you insight and the ability to observe your own behaviour, for example:

Conformity: You become aware of agreeing to something for the sake of it or to appease others

Countertransference: You feel an emotion towards someone without having any basis for it. For example, hating someone you just met for no particular reason. This will tell you about your own thought processes and beliefs.

Classical conditioning: Ever wondered why that song makes you feel the same emotions/feelings as when you first listened to it?

Core beliefs: These lead to the assumptions you view the world through, do you trust other people? Are you confident about your own ability? etc etc. Understanding these will greatly help you understand your own behaviour.

Are just a few examples. The self awareness of these processes grant you the ability to act with them, against them or just understand yourself better.
