How can I get a degree in Clinical Psychology and apply myself to leadership in higher education?
I really want to get a PhD in Clinical Psychology, but I also want to work in higher education and someday maybe become a dean of an university. I do not want a degree in Education and Counseling.

Your Ph.D. will take you the 4-5 years of undergrad, you’ll need a G.P.A well above 3.5 to get into any clinical psychology programs. You’ll spend another 2-3 years working on your M.S. and then an additional 3-4 years getting your Ph.D. On top of that you’ll have to work under direct supervision for another year before you can get licensed. This education alone will cost you a fortune.
Once you get to this point then you’ll have to start looking around for professor level positions at universities and then be willing to relocate. A Ph.D. from a well respected university will help you greatly here as well as a strong history with research.
Beyond that you’ll have to get tenure and then if you show good leadership potential you may find yourself as a department chair or Dean of a College within the university.
Just as a notice when i looked at these programs several years ago at a not very highly respected Ph.D. program the acceptance rate for their Clinical Ph.D. program was about 3% of all applicants. You’ll need outstanding grades, recommendations, and standardized test scores to get into a good program. Even that program the average GPA for those accepted was above 3.6 out of 4.0
