Deciding between white Macbook or Dell XPS m1330?

Well I’ll be starting college this fall and I’m debating on which laptop I will buy. After university deals, the Dell will probably end up being $1100-$1200 and the Macbook will probably end up being $1200-$1300. About the same price basically. Well anyways, I really can’t decide which to get. I’ve used Windows my whole life so I’d probably have to learn and get used to using OSX, which shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I mainly use my computer to surf the net (facebook, forums, download music, etc.), chat on AIM, check email, and occasionally play Warcraft III or Starcraft. I don’t think I’ll be needing my laptop for any programs for school as I’m a Psychobiology major; I’d probably only use Microsoft Word to type up reports and use internet for research. Anyways, what do you guys recommend? The only turn off about the Mac for me is the whole discoloration thing. They tend to get brown…kinda gross…

i would go with the mac….
you can just get ilife for about 80 dollars and it can open all your word files, plus the mac has so much to offer.

There are also deals that if you buy a mac for university, you can get a free Ipod….that may sound good to you,,,,im not sure

hope it helps and good luck!

Get the dell, unless you want an overpriced laptop.

If you’re only using that type of applications, those laptops would be wrongly chosen. You can choose a cheaper laptop, and still won’t use its full power. You can buy one for $500, like this one:

If you are going for those 2, I recommend you the XPS. Better OS, performance and reliability, and you save $100.

The discoloration thing is bull. I’ve got a white iBook and MacBook and an aluminum PowerBook G4 and MacBook Pro and none of them have any PERMANENT discoloration. Sure, they get dirty, but they’re easily cleaned.

You should get the XPS m1330. Hands down. I just got it and this thing is amazing! I would go for the product red version through your university’s website because it comes in the Crimson red color and a free upgrade to vista ultimate (which includes dreamscene). Also, keep in mind it comes pre-installed with NO extra bloatware software, like most other laptops do. Looks beautiful, has really good battery life, the LED display is really bright, and it handles vista with complete ease (you’ll wonder why people ever complain about vista since this system runs it so well) . I can actually play Call of Duty 4 on medium settings very smoothly on mine, so light gaming works really well on it. You can pay for an overpriced macbook that is slightly heavier and with many less features, but the m1330 is the complete package and I have only seen positive reviews on it. As a previous owner of a macbook, the xps system is overall a much better performing system, looks nicer, and it’s lighter and thinner too!
