Careers related to Abnormal and Clinical Psychology?

I am soon going to be starting a Masters course on ‘Abnormal and Clinical Psychology’.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on the sort of career opportunities this could give afterwards.

I am interested in counseling although I believe a Phd is required for this. A career relating to health would interest me or perhaps working with children/young adults as a school counselor.

Any suggestions of the sort of career I could work towards are appreciated!

It depends on where you live. In North America, most places require you to have a doctoral degree to be licensed as a psychologist. However, there are still a few places where this is not required. A master’s degree would allow you to work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist (called psychological associates or something of the like in some places). It would also allow you to work as a counsellor, including a school counsellor – again, depending on the rules of the state or province where you live. You could also probably find employment as a psychometrist, or as a research assistant. There are actually quite a few opportunities. If you are entering a master’s degree program, the program itself should be able to provide you with specific information regarding job prospects for graduates. Good luck!
