Can someone teach high school when they have a psychology or social science degree?

I know someone who teaches, and they have a human resources degree. Is it just because the schools are so hard up for teachers? I would love to teach, so I’m wondering if a Psychology or Social Science degree would allow me to do that.
If someone can substitute with a non-traditional degree, can that work into full-time teaching?

Various states allow this. Some let you teach while you are working on your teaching certification.Check your local state teaching requirements, etc.
I think anyone with 2 years of college can substitute. (just for info)
