Can someone please help me with a project idea for my Developmental Psychology class?

The topic must deal with individuals in their 40s and 50s.

I’ve noticed changes in people in their 40′s and 50′s, increased wealth, decreased sex drive, decreased hearing, increased medical needs, increased introspection. Why not build your paper around one of these areas.

Why not try a “compare and contrast” among several people within those age ranges (between 40 and 59)?

    - What is important to you now that was not important to you 5 years ago? 10 years ago?
    – What is not important to you now that was important to you 5 years ago? 10 years ago?
    – Are you more or less satisfied with your quality of life than you were 5 years ago? 10 years ago?

By using questions like that you can find their similarities and differences. You also might find/focus on some ways how “middle-aged” people think a lot younger than they act.

    Good Luck!

I’ve changed my answer… I like Joey’s suggestion (above). I’m not sure how you could develop a project based on people my age feelings of being trapped in their careers (my original idea).

Andycapps observations are true, but I think all that happens in the 50′s, not 40′s. I am in that age group and willing to answer questions.
