Blaine Cloud, Ph.D., to Lead Consumer-Side Research and Consulting as Senior Director at Evolution Marketing Research

As a skilled researcher with experience delivering robust consumer insights, both as a client and a consultant, Cloud will strengthen Evolutions already deep knowledge of medical markets and customer/patient behavior.

In this latter area, Clouds impact will be especially significant. Evolution leads the industry in physician-side marketing research, said Evolution Principal Jim Cummings. We understand the physiology behind our clients products, and we talk to physicians well. While weve delivered solid results on the consumer side of the business, weve been less visible than wed like. Dr. Clouds experience providing intelligence to power direct-to-consumer (DTC) campaigns and product-line extensions for major pharmaceutical brands will increase our capabilities and help us deliver richer insights to our customers.

Cloud earned his doctorate in cognitive neuropsychology and researched how the brain processes and remembers rational and emotional information at leading research hospitals during the early 1990s. He first applied this training to the pharmaceutical industry as a consultant at V2, Inc., where he worked to understand drivers of physician and patient behavior. His work at V2 focused primarily on qualitative marketing research for top domestic and international pharmaceutical clients looking to position their brands favorably in the marketplace or pursue new product development explorations.

At GlaxoSmithKline, Cloud leveraged this consulting experience in positions of increasing responsibility in Marketing Research, Brand Management and Global Strategic Marketing. As an internal market researcher, he supported Paxil and Coreg, providing the creative insights and intelligence to underpin four DTC campaigns, three indication/line extension launches and several professional positioning projects. In these efforts, Cloud worked extensively with advertising agencies and across brand teams, synthesizing information and gaining consensus among various project stakeholders. In Global Strategic Marketing, he worked in the R&D organization to guide clinical development and positioning of early assets.

Cloud joined Evolution officially on June 1. In his new role, Cloud will draw on his depth of experience and will be tasked with consulting and product development. In fact, Cloud is actively refining two patient-focused methodologies that will be available in the near future. The first methodology will enable brand teams to be guided by patients needs when looking to develop new DTC campaigns, clinical trials or new products and indications, leading to stronger patient positioning platforms and targeted creative execution. The second methodology will help a brand team more effectively and confidently improve an existing product or campaign by understanding why patients choose the brand in question over a competitors brand.
