Beverly Hills Psychologist, Dr. Jared Maloff, Specialist in Adult and Adolescent Depression, Announces New Website and Blog
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 16, 2007
Dr. Jared Maloff, a Clinical Psychologist in Beverly Hills, CA is announcing the beginning of his new website (www.beverlyhillspsychologist.com), which will feature articles and Dr. Maloff’s recommendations for psychological wellness. This site will serve as a community resource and information center for those suffering from depression, anxiety, addictions, and parents of small children and teens.
Dr. Maloff’s practice, located in Beverly Hills, CA serves the greater Los Angeles community. He specializes in treating adult and adolescent depression, anxiety disorders, and trauma survivors. Dr. Maloff, who also conducts psychological evaluations clinical and forensic settings, notes that “recently there has been a startling increase in the number of depressed children and adolescents presenting to my office.”
Dr. Maloff researched this notion and found that currently, 1 out of every 8 teenagers suffer from Clinical Depression and up to Two-thirds of children do not receive the mental health care that they need! What adults have always noticed, and termed, teenage angst now seems more apt to be named “teenage Clinical Depression.” This presents a major public health crisis in that suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds. Dr. Maloff states that if a parent believes his or her child is depressed, “timely mental health intervention from a competent clinician can help avoid incidents of recurrent, chronic depression and ultimately avert potential psychological crisis.” By intervening at a time when the depression seems to be more acute, greater psychological distress such as chronic depression and suicidality can be prevented.
Dr. Maloff notes that one of the major difficulties in helping teens obtain the mental health services they need is that depression amongst adolescents is often not easy for parents to accurately identify. Teens are often reluctant to discuss their sadness, or simply do not have the words to express their feelings. Symptoms that parents should be on the look-out for related to depression are: frequent headaches , frequent stomachaches, changes in appetite, changes in sleep patterns, inattention, lack of energy, and social isolation. Teenagers who present with several of these symptoms may be suffering from depression, and need to be evaluated by a psychologist or a psychiatrist in order to obtain relief from their depression. Dr. Maloff says, “The longer a child’s depression goes unnoticed and untreated, the more they tend to feel isolated and misunderstood by their parents and society. This feeling of isolation can perpetuate their inner sadness.” Psychological care from a trusted professional can help to treat this feeling of distress.
