Treating the Disruptive Adolescent: Finding the Real Self Behind Oppositional Defiant Disorders

Product DescriptionThis book offers clinicians an effective method of diagnosing, managing, and treating oppositional, resistant, and disruptive older children and adolescents. Dr. Bustamante understands oppositional states as an expression of the teenager’s uncertainty about his own identity and alienation from his true self. Attempts to curb rebellion that rely solely on firm behavioral limits will fail, because they thwart rather than promote development and disregard the real meaning of the disruptive behavior. The author’s approach is a sensitive and creative alternative to treating this difficult population, one that offers hope and attainable goals. It includes a method…. Click Here to Read More

Why am I so bored with college?

I am in my second semester at a small liberal arts college in North Carolina. I am an English Communications major, but I feel like I’m not learning anything in my classes. Aside from my basic courses (i.e. computers, health, etc) I am enrolled in two 300 level classes (Mythology, Fantasy, and Science Fiction and History of the American Novel) two 200 level classes (Linguistics and Psychology of Sexuality) as well as Astronomy. I am also a student in the Honors program of the college, and among the top students. My problem is that I feel useless. I’m not trying to be elitist or a smartass, but I honestly don’t feel like I am learning anything. Its not a matter of understanding-I just…. Click Here to Read More
